Oscar Prieckaerts is more than a furniture maker. Dutch born and trained, he has an innate insight into living in small spaces, and is easily able to re-design an area for maximum usage, whether that be an office/shop space, or residential space.
Oscar began studies in the Netherlands in sculpture at Kunstacademies Maastricht-Tilburg-Breda, and then continued with cabinet-making at Meubelmakers Vakschool in Amsterdam. He began his professional career in Amsterdam, where he could be seen delivering pieces of furniture via a "bak-fiets" (barge bicycle). Shop interiors included the design and make of the Knopen Winkel (retail specialist button shop), Exota (clothing retailer), de Bolhoed (macrobiotic restaurant), among others. His free style furniture was represented by Gallery Eckhardt, Amsterdam, and he made objects and furniture for private clients in the Netherlands, France and Spain, often collaborating with designer Carla Boomkens, and artist/sculptor Henk Visser.
In 1991, he moved permanently to Australia.
He continues to design and make shop interiors (All Buttons Great and Small, Newtown, among others), and interiors/office space for private clients. He collaborates regularly with designer Elliat Rich, and architects Marra+Yeh, as well as designer Peter Campbell, designer Genevieve Dugard, architect Genevieve Murray, architect Terry Bail, among others.
